Abstract
The study investigated job satisfactions as predictor of organizational commitment among secondary school teachers in Kebbi State, Nigeria. The study employed a correlational research design. The target population for this study consisted of secondary school teachers, principals and vice principals from the 25 selected secondary schools in Kebbi State with a total figure of 1,500 including 1,425 teachers, 25 principals and 50 vice principals. The 25 secondary schools were purposively selected based on their functionality and accessibility. In accordance with Research Advisor (2006), 306 respondents were drawn from the total population and participated in the study. 256 teachers were selected using proportionate purposive sampling, within each selected schools, the principal and one vice principal were included through total enumeration, resulting in 25 principals and 25 vice principals.. Questionnaires were the main instruments for data collection. The analysis of the quantitative data was carried out by using percentage, mean, standard deviation and regression analysis. The results of the findings revealed that: there is a significant and positive relationship between teachers’ job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The study concluded that organizational commitment among teachers is not developed in isolation but is strongly influenced by how satisfied they are with their job experiences. It was recommended from this study that government and educational stakeholders should improve teachers’ salary structure, allowances, and promotion opportunities; school administrators should maintain and strengthen positive working relationships, supportive leadership practices, and conducive teaching environments.
