Impact of School Insecurity on Teachers ‘Job Performance in Secondary Schools in Kebbi State

Abstract
The study examined impact of school insecurity on teachers’ job performance in secondary schools in Kebbi State. Population of the study comprised 2,764 teachers across all public secondary schools in Kebbi State. Proportionate stratified random sampling was used to select 384 teachers using Research Advisor (2006). Data were collected using a structured questionnaire titled School Insecurity and Teachers’ Job Performance Questionnaire (SITJPQ). The scales were ranked High Level (VHL) =4; High Level (HL)=3; Low Level (LL)=2; Very Low Level (VLL)=1. Reliability index of 0.87 was established via Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.87. Data was analyzed using mean, standard deviation via SPSS version 20. Findings revealed a high level of banditry-related school insecurity, high level of level of insurgency-related threats school insecurity on teachers’ job performance in secondary schools in Kebbi State. The study concluded that, both banditry-related and insurgency-related school insecurity significantly impede teachers’ job performance in secondary schools in Kebbi State. The study recommended that, state government, in collaboration with security agencies, should establish and maintain robust security systems in secondary schools across Kebbi State. Educational authorities should implement counseling services, stress management workshops, and incentive programs aimed at sustaining teachers’ professional commitment and instructional effectiveness despite prevailing security challenges.
